Meeple have been used in board games for over 20 years. First coined by Alison Hansel during a game of Carcassonne, the word caught on and has become synonymous with people-shaped wooden tokens used in board games of all types. Some games expanded on the people concept and started creating wooden animal shapes as tokens, thus creating Animeeple.
